Simon Micken, born in 1991, studied social sciences (B.Sc.) and sociology and empirical social research (Sociology and Social Research, M.Sc.) at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne.

In the project AdvancementS in Social Economy through Technological Solutions (ASSETS) (GA ID 101177874), funded by the Horizon Europe research framework programme, he is working in the field of Social Economy (SE) on tools and strategies to make it easier for SE organizations to scale their activities, secure funding and effectively measure their social impact. In close cooperation with the Social Network Lausitz in the district of Görlitz, the research focus for the Seminar für Genossenschaftswesen is on the core topics of health and social issues.

In the project Integrierte Sozialraumbildung und nachhaltige Sozialraumentwicklung in der Lausitz (INSOLA) (FKZ 03WIR6511B) - (engl.: Integrated Social Space Creation and Sustainable Social Space Development in the Lausitz region (INSOLA) - funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, he is working - also in the Lausitz region, particularly in the district of Görlitz - on a participatory analysis of the social space in order to systematically record social needs and thus further develop the social infrastructure in a targeted and sustainable manner. The aim is to create a resilient region through networking, civic engagement and social innovation, in which local stakeholders work together to create sustainable solutions.

Simon Micken has been doing his doctorate at the Seminar for Cooperative Studies on corporate cultures of cooperative banks in the context of merger processes. The doctoral project, which was funded by the Verein zur Förderung der genossenschaftswissenschaftlichen Forschung an der Universität zu Köln e.V. (FgF), focused on the possibilities and limits of empirical-quantitative analyses of corporate cultures.

In addition, Simon Micken has been a lecturer in the Sustainable Social Policy (B.A.) programme at the chair of Prof. Dr Remi Maier-Rigaud at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (HBRS) since the 2017/18 winter semester.

As the successor to Dr Ingrid Schmale, Simon Micken is also the contact person for FgF matters at the chair of Prof Dr Frank Schulz-Nieswandt.
