The Cooperative Studies Department at the University of Cologne was founded in 1926, making it one of the oldest cooperative studies departments in Germany. Its broad-based teaching and research program encompasses not only business and economic perspectives but also the social science perspective on cooperative economics and cooperative enterprises.
Here you will find the detailed academic profile of the Department of Cooperative Studies.
In keeping with the guiding principle coined by Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen —“What is impossible for the individual is possible for many”— cooperative action is more relevant today than ever.
The Seminar for Cooperative Studies takes up this powerful idea and develops it further. As a platform for research, teaching, and knowledge transfer, the SfG supports cooperative organizations and decision-makers in addressing current challenges. It combines scientific insights with practical application and contributes to actively shaping the cooperative idea in the 21st century.
For one thing remains unchanged: “
” The cooperative idea is not only historically significant—it is a viable answer to the economic and social questions of our time.
